Supporting Early Communication

These are some samples from our new pack, 'Supporting Parents with the Communication Journey'.

It is designed for practitioners, to help parents in supporting their child's speech development.

The ‘Communication Friendly Spaces’ Approach is a toolkit aimed at early year’s practitioners and those working with families to aid reflection around speaking and listening skills. The resource helps practitioners to understand more about the impact that the physical and emotional environment has on communication skills and why it is important to plan it very carefully.

The document is not a definitive guide but a collection of research, case studies and observations for practitioners to interpret and use in their own contexts.

It is important that all Practitioners who work in an Early Years environment have the appropriate skills and knowledge to; 

·         Promote speech, language and communication development

·         Identify the communication skills and needs of children in their care

·         Effectively support children and young people with additional speech, language and communication needs.

The Speech, Language & Communication Framework provides a systematic and comprehensive way of identifying the skills and knowledge of anyone who works with young children.  

For settings planning to identify the training skills and needs of their staff group we recommend that you consider using this document at the Universal level.

The goal of monitoring children's development is to plan and provide more accurate support for each child to make good progress.
